FAQ
What is URL encoding?
Also called percent-encoding, it replaces characters that are not allowed in a URL with a % and their byte value in hex. A space becomes %20 and é becomes %C3%A9.
When should I encode a whole URL instead of a component?
Encode a component, such as a query parameter value, when it will be placed inside a URL; that escapes &, = and /. Choose “Whole URL” to keep the URL structure and encode only spaces and other unsafe characters.
Should spaces be + or %20?
Form submissions (application/x-www-form-urlencoded) use +. Everywhere else, use %20. Tick “Spaces as +” for form data.
